African Drumming

Our African drumming workshops introduce students to the instruments and rhythms of Africa through participation in a drumming circle.

The workshops focus on the djembe - a West African drum made from wood with a goat skin head. The workshop introduces students to the 3 main sounds of the drum – bass, tone and slap. The workshop can be expanded to include chants and songs from West Africa.
