Add some drama to your lessons!

For this guest blog we hear from drama teacher Sam Marsden, who reflects on the broader benefits of introducing drama games into lessons of all kinds. The activities Sam uses in her teaching can offer a powerful new way for young people to tap into their creativity, build confidence and more – all of which also play an important role in the wider performing arts. Here, Sam highlights some of the benefits of adding some drama to your classes, and shares three activities that teachers could try for themselves with their students.

Books and music: how one art form can inspire another

Here at the Music Workshop Company, our work is driven by our love of music. But of course, music as an art form does not exist in a vacuum: throughout history, musicians and composers have been inspired by artists, writers and more – and vice versa. For younger audiences, this can provide multiple ways of accessing new stories and ideas, with new adaptations introducing children to works they may not otherwise have discovered. 
 
This month, with World Book Day approaching, we take a look at some of our favourite stories where music takes a starring role, and some of the music that has been inspired by books.

EMERGE(NCY) PARTY

This month’s guest blog is from a new initiative called EMERGE(NCY) PARTY which launches at the beginning of May.  
 
The initiative is aimed at asking young people how the world could change for the better after the Covid-19 crisis.  
 
It gives young people a voice in the crisis, to protest, to share and to celebrate – an opportunity to imagine and explore a better future through art.
