This month, we hear from Stuart Nicholson, Master of the Music at the world-renowned Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland. He tells us about his route into music, and explains just what his role entails on a day to day basis.

Read on to learn about the thrills and challenges of Stuart’s job, and what it’s like to work in such a setting. We also have information about a special afternoon of music-making at the cathedral this spring, where children can sing alongside the choir.

In May 1923, a new talent was born who would change the face of gospel music and bridge the gap between black and white musical cultures. As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Doris Akers – known to many as ‘Miss Gospel’ – we take a look at her musical career and influence.

Wales – Land of Song

The feast of Saint David, patron saint of Wales, falls on March 1st, the date of his death in 589 AD. Saint David’s Day has been regularly celebrated since his canonisation in the 12th century. To celebrate, we are exploring the music of Wales.

Wales holds a special place in our hearts here at the Music Workshop Company; firstly because it’s the home nation of founder and Artistic Director, Maria, and secondly because of its apt and joyful reputation as “Land of Song”.
